WHAT IS CARE SD?

A non-profit organization founded and run by caregivers, CARE SD is envisioned as a refuge for caregivers providing a broad space to build power, share and develop skills, and uplift themselves in a community of their own. It is also a safe space for caregivers and the community to meet, share stories and explore potentials. It is an organization that advances justice and equity through the arts and campaign for change using creative tools.

Our history

“CARE SD was born out of the need for caregivers to be seen and heard and be part of the conversation in the health care sector.  It started in 2012 in an afternoon tea when a group of caregivers started to talk about their life and work situations as immigrants, mothers and as workers.  Collaborating with other non-profit groups in San Diego, CARE SD filed its first wage case of an undocumented caregiver whose wages was regularly stolen by her agency.  The employer paid a settlement amount which inspired and encouraged many caregivers to come out and assert their rights.  CARE SD will never cease to exist as long as injustices at workplaces continue.”

Our mission

Our Mission is always towards fostering an uplifting an environment where caregivers develop their skills and share experience allowing an empowering community using theatre arts as a creative tool for education.
